I have stopped for the evening, the desert is a brutal place to be during the middle of the day, the world being the place it is now, without seasons, just the nights to steal one from the hot days here. The ball of fire that was the sun beat down with a ferocity unlike any I have seen today, at this point I am about two hours from sunset. I crossed a vast dead plain today and saw no sign of whatever had been tracking me. I have a lot further to go before I reach The Last Outpost, where I will be able to replenish my goods and have some rest before I make the unsteady trip up the stability line where the ground isn't always solid, the ravine changes daily, widening, every since the bomb split the earth here it has widened every day consuming the land around it, only one bridge is maintained here and that's at Maro's crossing. I am told to be weary of the old bridge and that they are almost identical, but everyone from the city knows the saying, " If the bridge faces north, it will be a safe course, if it faces northwest, it will lay you to rest." I need to be sure I'm crossing the right bridge, although I'm not really worried, I can trust my tools and instincts, of that I am sure. Maro's pass is 45 miles across. I will be doing all that I can to double check my direction, 15 miles across the old bridge by mistake may be my last. I have always heard that the ravine is a strange color where you pass above the clouds and catch only glimpses of things which have gotten lost below. I always dreamed of seeing it and within the next couple of days that dream will become a reality. I have a long way to go tomorrow, but I am sure if I start early, and keep a good pace, I'll be rounding Ox Team Trail, it is the closest pass to the Outpost, I considered taking One Man's Pass, a narrow slice through the range, but I would have to travel an extra 114 miles, and on foot, with amenities, 114 miles may as well be a million. It will feel good to eat a full meal and enjoy a good night's rest and a wash. I am excited, and I am feeling optimistic. With only two more days until I see the anything on the other side of the mountain range for the first time I have a great tickling feeling inside, it is a journey I have wanted to hike for a long time and here I am, half way across the high desert. Tonight I am going to eat the jerky I've been saving, it has an excellent protein content and should help to get my muscles ready to cross even more of the wastelands tomorrow. I have a makeshift map scribbled on an old piece of notebook paper from when the factories existed, it is a copy of the map I found in my father's belongings after he never returned from his last trip out. I am going to keep to the map it is almost identical to all the other maps of th he area, it just has a few markings that are unclear  I am sure I'll be in good hands. The wind is picking up now as I write this, refreshing the valley. I need to get my camp in order and get ready, with sunset coming soon I want to make sure things are safe and tidy, I need a good fire to ward off as much as I can, although I never saw my tag along today, whatever it is May be able to follow my scent, and there could possibly be other creatures lurking here to be concerned about. I may make another entry if the jerky and tea don't have me napping early. Signing off.
